Join L.A. Kitchen and Chef Jessica Wang for the next Power of Food event— an interactive hands on workshop on “Butter Mochi” and its ties to Lunar or Chinese New Year.
Jessica Wang, a Chinese American food entrepreneur who has spent the last 7 years working in some of LA’s most creative and seasonally inspired restaurant kitchens will be sharing her family recipe for the “butter mochi” (whose origin traces back to Chinese nian gao) as well as her unique traditions around the holiday. While Chinese New Year is a holiday steeped in tradition, Jess will be infusing the recipe with her own unique culinary style using local ingredients including red beans, walnuts, taro, and osmanthus flowers to garnish the rice cake. When not teaching or working in the produce department at Cookbook Market, Jess can be found exploring seasonal produce as she handcrafts pastries and makes fermented pickles through her pop-up concept PIQUE-NIQUE LA.
Your $10 ticket will guarantee your admission to your event, hands on participation, lots of tasting, and ingredients to take home! All participants will get to make their own butter mochi mix to take and bake at home. Everyone will also get to customize and garnish their mochi using toppings handpicked by Jess. Following the workshop you will get to taste your mochi, chat with Jess, and exchange with others your personal holiday traditions around food.
Due to the hands on nature of the event, space is limited to the workshop. If you have RSVP’d and can no longer attend, please let us know. Unfortunately we will be unable to refund tickets, but your $10 donation will go toward supporting L.A. Kitchen’s non profit programs.
If you are interested in attending, but face obstacles with payment, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (818) 401-5685. All other questions can be directed to email@example.com as well.
