By working directly with local farmers and wholesale produce companies, our Reclaim LA program will receive and recover millions of pounds of fresh produce annually. We will collect fruits and vegetables that are unsalable due to cosmetic issues or lack of commercial demand, utilizing nutritious produce that would otherwise go to waste.
Through our Impact L.A. program, L.A. Kitchen will prepare fresh, nutritious meals, snacks and food products for social service agencies across Los Angeles, prioritizing programs that serve our community’s aging residents.

With fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables, we will strengthen the community by getting healthier food to seniors in our community through Strong Food.
By working with farmers and wholesale companies and distributors to recover and collect cosmetically-imperfect produce, we are leading the charge against food waste. In addition, our direct buying approach allows more money to stay in the local economy and greater value to be delivered to our programs.
Every week, hundreds of community volunteers will chop, slice, and dice thousands of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Students of L.A. Kitchen’s culinary job training program, Empower L.A., will receive daily hands-on training from culinary instructors, attend sessions taught by local guest chefs, participate in an internship, and be supported in job placement and retention.
Volunteers represent a vibrant cross section of volunteers from diverse age groups, cultural communities, and professional and personal backgrounds and life experiences, and we will specialize in engaging both young and old. Volunteers will work side-by- side with job trainee students and graduates, challenging traditional barriers that divide the community.
